The Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce is the official tourism promotion agency (TPA) for Montgomery County in upstate New York, also located within the Central Leatherstocking tourism region of New York State.

We invite YOU to "Experience The Colors of Montgomery County!" Come be our guest and enjoy the amazing kaleidoscope of colorful events, attractions, culture and history that await you here. Montgomery County is famous for a multi-culturalism that makes our geographic area so unique. Nowhere else in the area will you find such a rich collage of ethnic groups and cultures, including the Native American Mohawk Indians and the Amish, to name just a few.

Did you know that the Montgomery County Department of History and Archives holds a vast collection of original historical and genealogical records? Housed in the magnificent Montgomery County Courthouse, built in 1836, the Department is a valuable source of information for genealogy buffs. Contact the Department at (518) 853-8187 or visit www.co.montgomery.ny.us/website. Listed under Departments.

Our history and heritage stretches all the way back to the colonial days of the pre-Revolutionary War in the early 1700s to the creation of the byzantine Erie Canal that heralded the dawn of Montgomery County as "the Gateway to the West." We are bordered to the southwest by Cooperstown in Otsego County and to the south by Schoharie County, as well as to our north by Fulton County in the foothills of the Adirondacks, and Saratoga County to our northeast.

You'll be thrilled with all of the great things we have to do and see here! We already have: the Erie Canal for your boating pleasure, plenty of heritage and historic sites including the austerely beautiful Stone Arabia churches and Historic Fort Klock, the legendary Fonda Speedway for dirt-track racing enthusiasts, our own wonderful Amish country, the Kanatsiohareke Mohawk Indian Community, and the revered National Martyrs' Shrine at Auriesville. But it's YOU visiting here that makes US so much fun!

You'll be glad you did!
